The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has welcomed the deployment of a new Nigerian Army battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State, describing the development as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and combat criminal activities across the North-West region.
The newly established military formations are the 24 Battalion, located in Tudun Wada, and the 311 Artillery Regiment, based in Dambatta.
Barau said the deployment underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing insecurity and protecting lives and property across the country.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for taking steps to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigerian Army and improve its response to emerging security threats.
He noted that the establishment of the formations aligns with the Federal Government’s security objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Barau also acknowledged the efforts of Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, in prioritising the safety and security of residents, emphasising the importance of sustained collaboration between the state government and the military.
The lawmaker urged residents of Dambatta, Tudun Wada and neighbouring communities to cooperate with the newly deployed military formations and other security agencies to ensure effective operations.
He particularly appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to provide timely and credible intelligence that could assist security personnel in identifying and addressing potential threats.
According to him, tackling banditry and other criminal activities requires a collective approach, stressing that the cooperation of host communities remains essential to achieving lasting security.
The Deputy President of the Senate further assured that the National Assembly would continue to support the Armed Forces and other security institutions through appropriate legislation and adequate resource allocation to strengthen the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.
He maintained that the deployment of the new military formations would complement existing security efforts and reinforce the protection of communities across Kano State and the wider North-West region.
