The House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted five motions addressing electoral preparedness, secondary school education, road infrastructure, national recognition and regional connectivity.
The motions, highlighted in a plenary update shared by the House spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., seek to address key national concerns through legislative resolutions and calls for action in critical sectors.
One of the motions focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections, with lawmakers inviting the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to present a comprehensive assessment of the commission’s level of preparedness for the polls.
On education, the House called for the reinstatement of Biology as a compulsory subject in secondary schools, alongside an expansion of language training to strengthen students’ academic development and language proficiency.
The lawmakers also addressed the state of road infrastructure, advocating a framework for federal road concessioning and regulated tolling as mechanisms to support road development, maintenance and long-term sustainability.
In another motion, members urged the renaming of the Federal University Wukari in honour of General T. Y. Danjuma, citing his distinguished service to the nation.
The fifth motion centred on regional connectivity, with the House calling for the rehabilitation of Rahama Road to improve transportation links between the North-East and Kaduna and Kano states.
The five motions reflect the House’s focus on electoral accountability, education reform, sustainable infrastructure development, recognition of national service and improved transportation networks.
