365Daily – Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd) is currently in a closed door meeting with Governors of the South-East region at the Government House, Enugu State.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Service Chiefs, as well as other political, religious and traditional leaders in the zone are part of the meeting.

The closed door meeting may not be unconnected to the worsening security situation in the region.

The host Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in his welcome address, described it as timely and apt.

He expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would engender the watershed to the security challenges in the South East zone.

Gov. Ugwuanyi stressed the need for all government structures to uphold the security and welfare of the people as the primary purpose of government.

The Governor added that the consultation with the Service Chiefs and critical stakeholders of the South East zone, on the current security challenges, “underscores the centrality of this security responsibility in our consideration”, and thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for this desirable and laudable development.
