The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has discharged 1,343 corps members of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ who completed their one-year national service in Abia State.
The low-key passing-out ceremony was held on Thursday at the Umuahia North Local Government Area (LGA) headquarters, with similar exercises conducted simultaneously across the state’s 17 LGAs.
The outgoing corps members received their Certificates of National Service at the ceremony.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Yunusa Tanimu, congratulated the corps members on behalf of the scheme’s management, commending them for their dedication, commitment and patriotism throughout their service year.
Tanimu said the corps members made significant contributions to education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructural development across the state.
He also praised their participation in Community Development Service (CDS), particularly group projects that improved the welfare of their host communities.
According to him, their contributions strengthened public confidence in the NYSC and positively impacted residents who benefited from their service.
The coordinator urged the outgoing corps members to sustain the values of selflessness, honesty, hard work and dedication as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
“Leadership starts now, whether as entrepreneurs, professionals or community leaders, and not only as future political leaders,” he advised.
Tanimu encouraged them to utilise the skills acquired through the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to explore business opportunities and become self-reliant.
He advised them to start small, create value, understand market dynamics and develop competitive brands, while remaining resilient in the face of challenges.
The state coordinator also urged them to embrace information and communication technology (ICT) and the digital economy to access legitimate employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
He assured the outgoing corps members that the NYSC remained committed to their welfare beyond their service year through guidance and information on empowerment opportunities.
