…Honours Gowon for national unity
…Sues for speedy passage of NYSC Trust Fund
The Expanded Joint Civil Society Consultative Forum has honoured Gen Yakubu Gowon for his vision of establishing NYSC, maintaining the scheme has remained the bedrock for national unity in Nigeria.
Convener of the Forum, Rev Solomon Semaka, during a press conference in Abuja on Friday said the meeting was convened to commend corps members for their selfless sacrifices to the motherland.
“This group of young Nigerians deserve public honour and commendation in many ways, “We all know the roles corps members play during elections, immunisations and other critical interventions
“For without the sacrifices of corps members, Nigeria would be in deficit of human resources in almost every sector.
“All over, we have young Nigerian corps members serving the nation in all sectors, from education to health all through the manufacturing sector, the corps members are offering incredible services,
“Recently under the inspiration of the current management, a lot of corps members have rediscovered their hidden potentials.
“We have instances of corps members creating employment chain in agriculture, we have seen corps members pioneer production of novel. All this should be encouraged through a robust funding platform so as to consolidate on existing fears so far under the current NYSC leadership .
“This puts the economy in the hands of the corps members, we must therefore pray and support them at all times , Rev Semaka maintained.
Further commending the leadership of the National Youth Service Scheme, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim for his sterling reforms, the forum said the current leadership has exposed the potentials of corps members in skills and enterprenuership endeavours”.
“The skills acquisition drive within the scheme will sure reduce unemployment and minimise crime in the country”.
He urged the National Assembly to ensure a speedy passage of the NYSC trust-fund to consolidate on the ongoing massive skills acquisition drive in the scheme.
