TCN Begins Repairs on Faulty Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV Line

The damage to the conductors triggered the tripping of the transmission line, necessitating urgent intervention by its technical team

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced efforts to restore the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330-kilovolt transmission line after a fault disrupted its operation early Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred at 12:37 a.m. on October 27, 2026, was caused by cut Y-phase downdropper twin conductors at the Ikeja-West end of the line.

TCN disclosed this in a statement signed by its management on Tuesday, noting that engineers were working to restore the affected line immediately.

The company warned that the outage would affect bulk electricity supply to parts of Lagos State, calling on Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) to take note of the development.

According to TCN, the damage to the conductors triggered the tripping of the transmission line, necessitating urgent intervention by its technical team.

The Ikeja-West/Omotosho line forms part of the high-voltage transmission infrastructure used to transport electricity to distribution networks. Any disruption to its operation could affect the volume of power available for distribution to consumers in connected areas.

Although TCN said its engineers were working to restore the line without delay, the company did not specify when repairs would be completed or normal transmission restored.

The outage could leave electricity consumers in some parts of Lagos experiencing interruptions in supply while efforts to fix the fault continue.

TCN appealed to the two distribution companies to take the necessary note of the development in view of its potential impact on electricity supply to their customers.

The company also apologised to customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric who may be affected by the incident.

It expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outage and reiterated that restoration efforts were underway.

The development highlights the impact that faults on critical transmission infrastructure can have on electricity delivery, particularly in areas dependent on affected transmission routes.

TCN has yet to announce a definite timeline for the full restoration of the line.
