Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has signed into law a bill establishing the Kaduna State College of Post-Basic Nursing Sciences in Rigasa, in a move aimed at strengthening specialist nursing education and expanding the state’s healthcare workforce.

Sani announced the development on Thursday, October 15, 2026, saying the institution would provide advanced training for nurses and contribute to improving the quality of healthcare services across Kaduna State.

The governor described the college as a strategic investment in human capital development, noting that specialist nurses were essential to effective patient management and the delivery of quality medical services.

He said the increasing demand for specialised nursing services made it necessary to expand training opportunities and equip healthcare professionals with the skills required to address emerging medical needs.

The college, which will be located in Rigasa, is expected to offer specialised programmes in midwifery, mental health, perioperative nursing, paediatric nursing, emergency nursing, intensive care and public health nursing.

It will also provide training in nursing education and administration to develop professionals capable of strengthening clinical practice, teaching and healthcare management.

According to Sani, the institution’s programmes will comply with the accreditation standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other relevant professional regulatory authorities.

Beyond academic training, the college is expected to support clinical research, continuing professional development and partnerships with teaching hospitals, universities and accredited healthcare institutions.

The governor said his administration was committed to developing the college into a centre of excellence where professional training and research would translate into improved patient care and better health outcomes.

He explained that the initiative formed part of a broader strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state, alongside the upgrading of 255 primary healthcare centres and the rehabilitation of 16 general hospitals.

Sani added that his administration would continue investing in the recruitment, training and professional development of healthcare personnel, stressing that the quality of medical services depended largely on the competence and dedication of the workforce.

He maintained that healthcare infrastructure must be matched with adequately trained professionals to ensure that residents receive timely, effective and compassionate treatment.

The governor assured the people of Kaduna State that his administration would work towards making the new college a functional institution capable of meeting the growing demand for specialist nursing services.

He reiterated his commitment to building a responsive and reliable healthcare system that protects patients’ dignity, strengthens public confidence and improves the overall well-being of residents.
