President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to lead air mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.

Keyamo will serve as Director of Air Mobilisation, with responsibility for coordinating air travel and aviation logistics for the party’s nationwide campaign activities.

The appointment was announced on Sunday in Abuja by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr Tunde Moshood.

The appointment forms part of the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s preparations for Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

As part of the directorate’s leadership structure, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has been named Deputy Director I, while the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr Farouk Umar, will serve as Deputy Director II.

Moshood said the appointments reflected the importance of aviation services in facilitating the movement of campaign officials and supporting activities across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

He explained that the directorate would coordinate air transportation, organise travel arrangements for designated personnel and work with other campaign units to ensure the smooth execution of campaign activities.

According to him, effective scheduling, operational planning and the efficient use of logistical resources would be central to the directorate’s responsibilities.

Moshood said Keyamo’s experience in managing the aviation sector was expected to strengthen the campaign’s organisational capacity, particularly in addressing the complex transportation needs associated with a nationwide presidential campaign.

He added that the minister’s policy efforts had focused on developing Nigeria’s aviation industry, improving its international profile and positioning the country as a major aviation hub on the African continent.

The presidential campaign structure, he said, would also benefit from the technical knowledge and sectoral experience of Kuku and Umar in coordinating aviation-related operations.

Moshood noted that air transportation was essential to campaign planning, given the need for political leaders and campaign personnel to cover multiple destinations within demanding schedules.

He said the directorate would work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that travel arrangements were properly coordinated and campaign logistics were managed efficiently.

The presidential aide, however, emphasised that the directorate’s effectiveness would depend on cooperation with other campaign structures, adherence to established operational procedures and compliance with aviation safety standards and relevant electoral laws.

He also stressed that campaign activities must be clearly separated from official government duties, with all related arrangements conducted through properly authorised channels.
