The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to make truth, national unity and the welfare of Nigerians central to their campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abbas gave the charge during the inauguration of the council, warning that effective political communication must go beyond rallies, posters and slogans to address citizens’ concerns and explain the government’s policies and achievements.
He urged the campaign team to communicate the administration’s record honestly, acknowledge the difficulties Nigerians face and outline the work required to improve their living conditions.
The Speaker acknowledged that the reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had come with sacrifices for citizens, but stressed that the next phase must focus on converting economic stability into practical benefits, including job creation, increased productivity and shared prosperity.
Abbas also pointed to the contributions of the 10th House of Representatives to the country’s reform efforts, highlighting legislation on student loans, the minimum wage and tax reforms, alongside initiatives to advance state policing.
He told members of the campaign council that their conduct and communication would be crucial to how Nigerians assessed the party and its administration.
According to him, campaign officials should respond to criticism with facts and sound arguments rather than insults, while using their platforms to promote understanding and national cohesion.
Abbas further stressed that strengthening the country’s economic and institutional foundations would have limited impact unless citizens could feel the benefits through improved livelihoods and expanded opportunities.
He urged the council to approach its assignment with discipline and a clear understanding of the concerns of Nigerians, noting that the campaign should focus on consolidating progress and advancing national development.
The Speaker maintained that the interests of the people must remain at the heart of the party’s engagement as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
