The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has scheduled the unveiling of its National Campaign Council and the presentation of its financial statement for Monday, October 26, as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The activities will take place during the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja, beginning at 10 a.m.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., disclosed this in a statement dated October 23, describing the meeting as an opportunity to demonstrate the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability and inclusive political participation.

According to the statement, the National Treasurer will present the party’s statement of account as part of efforts to promote openness in the management of its finances.

The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to follow its example by making their financial records available for scrutiny.

“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” the party declared.

NDC Explains Financial Challenges

The party acknowledged that its finances could have been stronger but said many of its candidates had struggled to meet the cost of obtaining Expression of Interest forms.

It claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the forms, forcing the party to provide them free of charge.

The NDC attributed the situation to what it described as worsening poverty, hunger and deprivation under the APC-led administration, criticising the government’s economic policies.

The party said its decision to waive the fees was part of its effort to accommodate candidates facing financial difficulties and broaden participation within its ranks.

The claims and criticisms were contained in the party’s statement announcing the NEC meeting.

Campaign Council to Cover All Elective Positions

The NDC said the unveiling of its National Campaign Council would establish a comprehensive campaign structure covering the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

It added that candidates would also receive Certificates of Return for their respective offices during the meeting.

Describing its campaign framework as innovative and all-encompassing, the party said it was positioning itself to compete across the different levels of government in the 2027 elections.

The party expressed confidence in its readiness for the electoral contest, pledging to offer Nigerians what it described as altruistic leadership.

“A New Nigeria is Possible. We can do it!” the statement declared.

The October 26 meeting is expected to bring together members of the party’s national leadership as it consolidates its campaign arrangements and outlines its approach to financial accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
