The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso constitute the most experienced and qualified pair to steer Nigeria out of its economic difficulties and worsening insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Council, BD Lawal, made the declaration on Monday during the inauguration of the NDC Election Committees, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the presidential election.

Lawal described Obi and Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, as the best combination of leaders capable of addressing the challenges confronting the country.

He said the NDC was determined to move Nigeria forward, describing the current situation as one in which the country could not afford to retreat despite the obstacles ahead.

According to him, the party’s candidates have consistently emerged as frontrunners in surveys and analyses allegedly conducted by polling agencies and scholars over several months.

He claimed that the NDC ranked first in more than 20 states and was a close second in several others, insisting that the party was well positioned to win the election outright.

Lawal, however, did not disclose the names of the polling agencies or provide figures to support the claims.

He said the NDC would adopt an issues-based campaign, presenting its policies and programmes to Nigerians alongside clear explanations of how they would be implemented and the results expected.

The campaign council chairman also pledged that the party would avoid insults, falsehoods and personal attacks against political opponents, stressing that its campaign would be guided by civility and respect for other contestants.

He nevertheless warned that the party would not tolerate violence against its members and supporters or attempts to manipulate election results.

“ This election will be won and lost at the polling booths, not the courts,” Lawal said, cautioning those contemplating electoral violence or rigging to have a rethink.

He urged party supporters to remain vigilant on election day by ensuring that votes were properly sorted, counted, recorded and announced at polling units.

He also encouraged them to follow the results through the various collation centres to ensure that figures were accurately tallied and declared.

Describing the NDC’s mission to tackle poverty and insecurity as divinely inspired, Lawal expressed confidence that the party would overcome the challenges ahead.

He concluded by urging supporters to remain committed to the party’s electoral objectives, expressing hope that an NDC government would be inaugurated in May 2027.
