In a continued effort to drive economic growth and agricultural transformation, Governor Umar Namadi is leading a high-level delegation on a two-week agricultural trade and investment mission to India, scheduled from Saturday, 24th May to Tuesday, 3rd June 2025.
This mission is part of Jigawa’s resolve to revamp its agriculture through international cooperation and advanced technologies.
The delegation comprises senior government officials and technical experts, including the commissioner for agriculture; technical advisor to the governor on agriculture; permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture; director general, Jigawa Research Institute; and the executive secretary, Farmers and Herdsmen Management Board.
While in India, the team will engage with leading Indian institutions across Gujarat, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh to study scalable innovations and explore cooperative ventures in the following focus areas:
• Dairy Value Chain Modernization:
Engagements with Amul Dairy Cooperative and the National Dairy Development Board to understand integrated dairy systems, cold chain logistics, and cooperative models.
• Livestock Development:
Visits to Srinivasa Hatcheries and agricultural research centres to assess breeding technologies, artificial insemination, and feed innovation.
• Agri-Tech and Seed Development:
Partnership opportunities with top firms like Nuziveedu Seeds and Corntech Seeds in mechanized farming and improved seed varieties.
• Aquaculture and Poultry Production:
Studies of successful models in fish farming and poultry integration with emphasis on smallholder inclusion in Andhra Pradesh.
The trade mission is expected to yield:
• Technical cooperation agreements with Indian institutions
• Development of pilot dairy and livestock improvement projects
• Capacity-building programs for Jigawa’s extension workers and farmers
• Investment commitments from leading Indian agribusiness firms
Commenting on the trip, Governor Namadi affirmed that the mission will drive practical solutions for increasing productivity, strengthening food security, and creating jobs through sustainable agricultural practices.
“This visit marks a decisive step toward repositioning Jigawa as a leader in agricultural innovation and rural transformation,” he said.
