365Daily – The Senate will on Thursday, December 5, 2024, meet with a Federal Government (FG) delegation to resolve issues related to the proposed Tax Reform Bills currently under consideration in the National Assembly.
President Bola Tinubu had in September, 2024, forwarded the bills seeking to overhaul the tax administration system to improve its effectiveness to the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
Following controversies surrounding some provisions in the proposal, the President on Tuesday directed the Ministry of Justice to work closely with the National Assembly to address the concerns within and outside the legislature.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, disclosed that the meeting would be held at the National Assembly Complex.
He added that the interaction would afford the lawmakers, who will be led by the Senate minority leader, Abba Moro, the opportunity to have extensive interaction with the government before passing the tax reform bills.
Other Senators who will attend the meeting as announced by the Deputy Senate President are the Chief Whip, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Adamu Ailero (PDP, Kebbi Central), Seriake Dickson (PDP – Bayelsa West), Titus Zam (Benue South), Abdullahi Yahaya (Kebbi), Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), Sani Musa (APC – Niger East) and Adetokunbo Abiru (APC – Lagos East).
