Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has imposed a-24 hour curfew on Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The development followed grave security situation in the region that has led to the wanton destruction of lives and property leading to instability of the area.
Governor Alia who announced the decision yesterday in Makurdi, through his deputy, Sam Ode in a statement by his technical adviser Solomon Iorpev, the curfew would be observed from 6pm to 6am beginning from today until further notice.
He called for calm as security operatives have been deployed in their numbers to keep the peace in Ukum in particular and the Sankera region at large.
Information indicates that suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly without provocation stormed Boikyo community of Ukum in the wee hours of Tuesday and slaughtered six persons in cold blood.

He said not satisfied with government swift response, the villagers started burning houses of prominent government officials in the area, as well as torch lighting the Local Government Secretariat Ukum at Sankera.
