365Daily – Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has charged the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas in the state to ensure that they hold regular security meeting twice monthly.
The Governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of the Local Government Chairmen at Government House, Sokoto, on April 7, 2021.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor, Muhammad Bello added that the Governor also urged them to be report outcomes of the security meetings to the state government for the improvement of the security of the state.
As part of moves to boost effective discharge of duties by the LGA superintendents, Governor Tambuwal donated brand new Hilux vehicles to all the local government chairmen, while appealing to them to shun truancy and pay attention to the issue of security, welfare and good governance.
The statement added that he also charged them to be just and fair in discharging their duties irrespective of religious, ethnic and political differences.
Tambuwal commended the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SOSIEC) for conducting a free and fair election by using card readers, while noting that it was the second time that the state government was conducting local government elections with card readers.
He thanked the people in the state for coming out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice and commended the traditional and religious leaders for their support and cooperation to the policies and programmes of the government.
