Veteran journalist, writer, and media consultant Mike Odiakose has reportedly died.
His first daughter, Ruth Odiakose, disclosed the news during a telephone conversation with our Correspondent on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Earlier, a WhatsApp message sent from Odiakose’s phone number had informed a recipient of his death, stating: “Good morning sir, just to let you know that Mr Mike Odiakose passed on in the early hours of this morning.”
He received his education at Auchi Polytechnic, Holy Saviour’s College, Isolo, Lagos, among other institutions.
He served as Political Editor of Nigerian Pilot Newspapers and, in recent years, worked with Daily Asset Newspaper.
Members of the public, colleagues and sympathisers wishing to condole with the family may visit the deceased’s residence along the Karu Local Government Council Secretariat in Nasarawa State. Further enquiries can also be made through his phone number, 08052369321.
Reacting to the development, Johnchuks Onuanyim, a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, described Odiakose’s death as shocking.
According to Onuanyim, “Another one in less than a month. After Osadebamwen Patrick, now Mike Odiakose. One death too many. May God protect NUJ FCT members from this untimely deaths.”
Odiakose’s death has left colleagues and members of the journalism community mourning another loss within a short period.
