The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has appealed to members of the public for information that could help trace the family of a baby reportedly abandoned in the Galadima area of Abuja.
The baby was found in Galadima on Monday, September 14, 2026, amid growing concerns over the increasing cases of children being abandoned or left vulnerable in communities.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the development in a post on Monday, appealing to residents with useful information to come forward and assist the police in reuniting the child with its parents or relatives.
Adeh described the situation as disturbing, stressing that every child deserves safety, love and protection.
She urged anyone who may have information about the identity, parents or relatives of the child to report to the police or provide the relevant information to the authorities.
“Another child picked up in Galadima earlier today, 14th September 2026,” Adeh stated.
She added: “This disturbing trend of children being abandoned or left vulnerable in our communities must stop. Every child deserves safety, love and protection.”
The police spokesperson further called on members of the public to help in tracing the child’s family, saying: “If you have any information that can help us trace this child’s parents or family, please come forward. Let’s help give this child a family and a safe home.”
The command’s appeal comes against the backdrop of concerns over child abandonment and vulnerability, with the police urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report cases involving children found without parental care.
Authorities are expected to continue efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s abandonment and identify the family.
