The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 70 suspects following a viral video alleging a robbery incident around Unity Fountain in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The arrests followed a directive by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordering an immediate and comprehensive raid of identified criminal blackspots around Unity Fountain and its environs.
The directive, according to the police, was aimed at identifying and apprehending persons who may be connected to the alleged robbery incident.
In compliance with the order, operatives attached to the Maitama Division conducted coordinated raids across identified criminal flashpoints in the area, leading to the arrest of 70 suspects.
The police said 30 of the suspects were screened and released following preliminary investigations and due process, while 40 others were retained in custody for further investigation.
According to a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2026, by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja, the victim of the alleged robbery was subsequently able to positively identify two of the suspects as persons he recognised from the incident.
The two identified suspects, alongside other persons still being held, remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The command said investigations have also been expanded to establish the identities and whereabouts of any other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged offence.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to ensure that those found to have links to the incident are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command has urged residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station.
