The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned seven-hour power interruption on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to carry out annual preventive maintenance at its 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.
According to a statement issued by TCN management on Monday, September 14, the maintenance exercise is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m.
TCN said its technical crew will carry out preventive maintenance on the 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, as well as associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment at the substation.
The exercise is expected to temporarily affect electricity supply to several communities and major customers served through the facility.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and environs during the maintenance period.
Similarly, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara, Oka and surrounding areas.
TCN explained that the planned intervention was necessary to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of equipment at the Ajaokuta transmission facility.
The company assured affected customers that electricity supply would be restored to the affected areas upon completion of the maintenance work.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience the planned maintenance may cause affected electricity customers and appealed for their understanding and cooperation.
The maintenance forms part of TCN’s routine preventive measures aimed at maintaining the transmission network and reducing the likelihood of equipment failure and unplanned outages.
