365Daily – Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have ruled out supporting political alliances that could weaken the party or conflict with its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The position was announced by the chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, after the forum’s meeting in Abuja on Monday night.

Uzodimma said the governors had not entered into any formal political agreement with individuals or opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development comes amid the activities of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Nyesom Wike, who has been promoting a Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Wike recently alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, were among those behind some of the political challenges confronting him.

He linked the disagreements to the expansion of his Rainbow Coalition, which he said was providing a platform for politicians seeking to challenge APC candidates in governorship and senatorial contests.

Responding to the broader issue of political alliances, the APC governors said they would not support arrangements that could create divided loyalty, confusion or competing interests within the party.

Reading the communiqué issued after the meeting, Uzodimma said the forum’s priority was to support candidates officially sponsored by the APC at every level.

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” he said.

Uzodimma further stated that the governors would not support candidates who were not contesting under the APC, stressing that the party was responsible for sponsoring its candidates.

He said the governor’s campaign activities would focus exclusively on APC candidates, while the party’s campaign structure would operate in line with President Tinubu’s expectations and the strategic objectives of the party.
