Okonjo-Iweala bags second Term as WTO DG

365Daily – Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been reappointed as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for a second term.

Though she was the sole candidate for the position, the 70-year-old Nigerian economist had to garner the support or agreement of all 166 WTO members, including the United States to get her reappointment.

The reappointment was disclosed by WTO in an X post on Friday, November 29, 2024.

“WTO members today agreed to give incumbent Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala a second term as Director-General of the WTO,” the organisation announced.
