Kano Pillars recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Nasarawa United in their Matchday 11 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.

Yahaya Ibrahim put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute before Fabian Nworie added the second goal in the 65th minute to seal all three points for the Sai Masu Gida.

Nasarawa United struggled to break through Kano Pillars’ defence despite their efforts to reduce the deficit, as the hosts maintained their defensive discipline to secure a clean sheet.

Reacting after the encounter, Kano Pillars Head Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, commended his players for the victory, describing Nasarawa United as a tactically organised and challenging opponent.

Ogunmodede admitted that playing at home came with considerable pressure, given the high expectations of the club’s supporters, but noted that his players were gradually learning to cope with the demands.

He explained that his team exploited the flanks and spaces in Nasarawa United’s defence to create scoring opportunities, particularly through the tactical deployment of the wing-backs during the opening stages.

According to him, the approach unsettled the visitors’ full-backs and created opportunities in the central areas.

The coach said Kano Pillars maintained the attacking strategy in the second half and created several chances but regretted that some opportunities were wasted.

He added that the team could have scored more than two goals based on its performance after the break.

Ogunmodede described the victory as significant, noting that the maximum points and clean sheet would boost the team’s standing on the league table while easing pressure on the players and supporters.

Kano Pillars will next travel to face Kun Khalifat FC on Friday in their Matchday 12 fixture.
