The Anambra State Deputy Governor urged the UN to do everything within their powers to help ensure that the people of Ogbaru resume their normal life, especially as the floods begin to recede
*Conducts UN officials round damaged infrastructure in Council area
The Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Paschal Aniegbuna, has appealed for international support to get damaged infrastructure in the area back on track.
Speaking over the weekend while conducting a four-man team of United Nations Resident Humanitarian officers, who alongside some state officials, visited the Council area on an on-the-spot assessment tour, Hon. Aniegbuna told the delegation that currently, about eight communities and several camps were no longer accessible by road, having been cut off by the monstrous flooding.
He specifically mentioned reconstruction of the Atani-Ossomala road, currently rendered impassable following the collapse of a major bridge and several culverts.
While the state government delegation comprised the deputy governor, Dr.Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi and Commissioner of Environment, Engineer Chinedu Odimegwu, the UN team had messrs Prestage, Mathias, Throne and Mrs Vehda.
Reiterating the Council Chairman’s call, the Anambra State Deputy Governor urged the UN to do everything within their powers to help ensure that the people of Ogbaru resume their normal life, especially as the floods begin to recede.
During the assessment tour, the delegation visited Holding Centres housing internally displaced persons at Atani, Iyiowa-Odekpe and Akili Ozizor.
The team equally inspected collapsed culverts at Ogbakuba, Akili Ozizor, Ogwuikpele and Ossomala – all in the Council area.
