365Daily – As the Anambra State governorship election draws very near, the camp Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to grow larger with the defection of a former governorship aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the State, Chukwuma Umeoji, who on Saturday, October 30, 2021, dumped his former political party and declared for the APC.

Umeoji was not alone in this latest movement as he defected with two more members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. John Nwokoye of Awka North constituency and Hon. IK Obimma of Oyi state constituency.

This development is happening barely two weeks that the deputy governor of the state, Nkem Okeke also bided goodbye to APGA and embraced the APC, pledging to work for the emergence of Senator Andy Uba as the governor-elect of Anambra State come November 6.

The new members were received by the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni who expressed optimism that with the new development, APC now has more confidence going into the poll.

Buni also said that with the defection of the two State Assembly members to the APC, APGA has lost its simple majority in the state and has become a minority party in the state, while APC has become the majority party in the State House of Assembly.

He promised the new members equal opportunities as other members.

Buni had told Umeoji that “APC will stand for you and your supporters, and protect your political interests at all times. You will enjoy every privilege enjoyed by every member of the party”.
