In response to an ongoing gas leakage at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has advised residents of Magboro, Ogun State and commuters plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to comply with safety measures.

This was contained in a statement issued by Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, NEMA, on Wednesday in Lagos.

“NEMA wishes to appeal to commuters and people around Magboro to comply with safety measures taken to safeguard their lives and property, in view of gas pipeline rupture as a result of activities along the major highway,” he said, adding that “in the meantime, supplies have been shut down to suffocate the supply line while fire services are on standby to forestall any emergency.

“People are enjoined to endure the inconveniences that have arisen due to these safety measures,” he advised.

Farinloye said officials of NEMA, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria Gas Company and Ogun State Fire Service were working diligently to stabilise the situation.

365Daily had reported earlier that the leakage occurred on Wednesday morning after a gas pipeline was ruptured due to road construction activities.

It was gathered that the incident led to traffic gridlock on both inbound and outbound sections of the expressway.
