American beauty and lifestyle influencer Crystal Nicole has accused Nigerian actress Uche Montana of allegedly copying one of her social media contents almost word for word without giving her credit.
Crystal said she understands that content creators often draw inspiration from one another, but argued that the alleged recreation of her content went beyond inspiration and amounted to plagiarism.
According to the influencer, the content was allegedly reproduced step by step and presented as though it were Uche Montana’s original idea.
Crystal further alleged that the recreated content was used in a paid partnership, raising concerns that her creative concept was allegedly presented to a brand and monetised without acknowledgment.
She said she invests significant time and effort into developing her content and expressed disappointment over what she described as the use of her creative work without credit, recognition or accountability.
Crystal also disclosed that after she raised the issue on Instagram, Uche Montana contacted her and suggested that the matter could be handled “respectfully.”
However, Crystal questioned why publicly addressing the alleged copying should be considered disrespectful, insisting that she had not initially acted disrespectfully towards the actress.
She maintained that, in her view, the alleged disrespect stemmed from using another creator’s idea without attribution and subsequently benefiting financially from it.
Uche Montana has not publicly responded to the allegations in the statement provided.
