Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state, has called on government to consider reports of study tours of the National Defence College, as working documents for the resolution of diverse issues they addressed.
He made this call at the presentation of the study report of Team 4 of course 29 of the college on ways of improving science and technology education in Sokoto state.
According to the governor, the study tours of the college are deep and handled by top officers of the Armed Forces and individuals of very rich technical and research capacities that can help the nation overcome many of its current challenges.
The governor who was represented by the commissioner for Careers and Security, Garba Moyi Isah, at the presentation ceremony at the college in Abuja, assured the leadership of the college that the report of the study tour will be fully implemented to improve science and technology education in the state.
He described members of the study team as highly disciplined and seasoned officers, who gave excellent accounts of themselves while in the state otherwise known as the seat of the Caliphate, for the National Study Tour.
During the study tour and familiarization visit of the team to the state, they were hosted at the Government House Sokoto where Governor Tambuwal had tasked the college to embark on a study to unravel the security challenges in the northern parts of the country with specific focus on the nature and scope of conflicts in Sokoto state.
Presenting the report of the team titled “Promoting Science and Technology Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution for National Development”, team lead, Group Captain MS. Kamara, who is one of the African participants from Sierra Leone appraised the role of science and technology education in Sokoto state
He said the state of science and technology education in Sokoto state already looks good enough for the utilization of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for enhanced national development in the country.
He noted that Sokoto state is the only state in the country that has built twenty-three girls’ science and technology schools in all the local governments of the state. He also noted that findings by the team indicated that Sokoto is the first state in the country to have domesticated the Child Rights to Universal Basic Education and backed it with a legal framework.
The report further noted that the state is among the few in the country that has created a special ministry of science and technology education to monitor and manage technology training and incubation in the state.
Group Captain Kamara appreciated the governor for the warm reception of his team and added that the NDC looks forward to further collaboration with the state government on security issues in the future.
In his remarks, Commandant of the Defence college, Vice Admiral Mackson Makinde Kadiri, expressed joy on the willingness of the state government to utilize the research based findings for development. He noted that the future belongs to that class.
He thanked Governor Tambuwal for his outstanding support to the college and assistance rendered to course participants that visited sokoto..
