Assemblies of God teenagers hold prayers for Nigeria’s challenges

By Moses Okorie

365Daily – Teenagers of Assemblies of God Church have gathered at Wuse, Abuja, the nation’s capital, to pray for God’s intervention in the numerous challenges Nigerian is currently facing.

The event which started on Thursday, August 26, 2021 snowballed all through the night and culminated Friday afternoon.

The participants, which were drawn from across five districts that make up North Central Zone I, had only three in attendance, comprising of Abuja Main, Abuja East and Abuja North districts, because academic session is still on in the other two districts.

    Reverend Emmanuel Ihuoma

Speaking to our correspondent who was on ground at the event, the Zonal Coordinator, who also doubles at the district coordinator of Abuja North, Reverend Joseph Ijogi Ogbu, said the essence of the programme was to come together and pray for God to have mercy on Nigeria and deliver it from the challenges of insecurity and other vices.

According to him, “Teenagers from the whole Assemblies of God Nigeria were supposed to meet at our camp in Ebonyi State, but because of insecurity and schools still being in session; we have a university in that camp, and it is still in session, so the hostels won’t be free for this event. That is why it was decentralised into zones.

On the objective of the event, Ogbu said, “As the theme of this year implies ‘Arise to the Challenge’; we all know the period we are in. The entire world is facing a serious challenge, and the church is not left out of it; challenge of insecurity, challenge of hunger, challenge of corruption, challenge of bad economy and all that. We have decided, this year, to come together and pray.

“Our parents have prayed, and like I am speaking right now, the entire women of Assemblies of God Nigeria are in Ebonyi State since Monday and they will be coming back today, Friday. The children are also here. Men had their own two weeks ago, and so God is helping us to face the challenge. The purpose is to face the challenge that the world is passing through today, and to bring the world closer to God”.

The clergy said he was optimistic that prayer can change negative situation.

“There is nothing prayer cannot do. Like it is written, in the book of Jeremiah chapter 33 verse 3, God said, ‘call upon me in the days of your troubles and I will answer you. I will show you great and might things’.

We believe in this God and when we call upon him, He will answer us”.

Revered Ogbu called on Assemblies of God teenagers to shine as light to their society and admonished the entire Nigerian teens to shun immorality and every act capable of projecting Nigeria in bad light.

* Rev. Claudius Wisdom

Some leaders of the church including the three district superintends; Reverend Sunday Moses of Abuja North, Reverend Emmanuel Ihuoma of Abuja East while that of Abuja Main, sent representatives to the teens camp and encouraged them on the subject matter.

Other teens coordinators are Reverend Mkpe Austin Mkpe for Abuja East and Revered Claudius Wisdom for Abuja Main District.
