Eggon Forum raises alarm over alleged parallel endorsement ahead of 2027

The group stressed that its concern was not targeted at any particular aspirant but was aimed at protecting what it described as the collective interest and political aspirations of the Eggon people

The Eggon Forum has urged sons and daughters of the Eggon nation to shun divisive politics and personal interests as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship and other elective contests in Nasarawa State.

The forum made the call in a statement signed by Haruna Ali Alaku and Bashayi A. Umbugaku Keffi and made available to journalists.

It expressed concern over reports of a planned political endorsement by a group it accused of presenting itself as a body of Eggon critical stakeholders.

While acknowledging the right of individuals and groups to participate in politics and support candidates of their choice, the forum warned that a parallel endorsement could create confusion and undermine unity within the Eggon community.

The group stressed that its concern was not targeted at any particular aspirant but was aimed at protecting what it described as the collective interest and political aspirations of the Eggon people.

The forum recalled that the Eggon Political Forum, which it described as a broad-based platform with representation across the three senatorial zones and among Eggon people in the diaspora, had already endorsed Rt. Hon. Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

According to the statement, the endorsement was informed by the position that the Eggon people should seek the governorship of Nasarawa State at this time rather than accept the position of deputy governor.

The forum said any subsequent attempt to announce another position as a fresh “Eggon consensus” should therefore be carefully scrutinised, especially where it could suggest that the community is divided over an issue on which a representative platform had already taken a position.

It, however, emphasised that political support remained an individual right, stressing that every Eggon son and daughter was free to support a candidate or political party of their choice.

It cautioned against presenting such individual preferences as the collective position of the entire Eggon nation without broad consultation and demonstrable consensus.

The forum appealed to Eggon political leaders, elders, youths, women and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and embrace dialogue in resolving political differences.

It said the 2027 political season offers the Eggon nation an opportunity to advance its long-standing aspiration for greater political leadership in Nasarawa State.

To achieve this, the group said the community must prioritise unity of purpose, strategic thinking and the broader interest of the people over individual political ambitions.

The forum also urged those behind the reported parallel initiative to reconsider their approach and pursue dialogue to avoid unnecessary tension.

It maintained that the political future of the Eggon nation should not become a platform for the interests of a few individuals, insisting that Eggon unity must remain the priority.
