The FCT Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
The suspect was arrested on October 2 by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol of the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the officers noticed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle, registration number KMC567LQ, parked at the location with its windows wound up.
The officers reportedly became suspicious after noticing that the vehicle was shaking. Upon approaching and opening the vehicle, they allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the minor.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the girl was rescued.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle and threatened her against disclosing the incidents.
A medical examination reportedly revealed that the victim is about three months pregnant, allegedly as a result of the abuse.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations, after which he will be charged to court.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely monitor the safety and welfare of their children and wards.
The Command also urged residents to report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
