The Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the people of Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area to end their hostilities and embrace peace.
The former Anamsbra State governor, in a statement, expressed concern over reports of renewed tensions between the two communities, warning that continued conflict would only deepen the hardship already confronting residents.
He described the impact of adding conflict to the existing economic and social difficulties as “like adding fuel to the fire,” urging both sides to immediately cease hostilities.
The former governor appealed to the parties to avoid further loss of lives, destruction of homes and livelihoods, as well as the suffering inflicted on families and the wider communities.
Obi urged the people of Umuoba-Anam and Aguleri to embrace dialogue and reconciliation rather than violence and revenge.
He stressed that differences could be resolved through peaceful means, calling on community leaders and stakeholders to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of their people.
Obi also prayed for wisdom for the leaders and lasting peace for the two communities.
He concluded with the assurance: “Nigeria will be OK.”
