365Daily – The process of the elevation of Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has began with the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommending her for the appointment.
Justice Kekere-Ekun will be replacing Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is due for retirement on August 22.
The recommendation was made to President Bola Tinubu at the NJC’s 106th meeting which held in Abuja between August 14 and 15.
Disclosing this development, the spokesman for the NJC, Soji Oye said in a statement issued on Thursday, August 15, 2024, that the decision became imperative because Justice Ariwoola “will formally bow out of office as the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria next week Thursday on 22 August 2024.”
He continued: “Council also recommend 27 candidates for appointment as judges of states courts and a candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja to their various state governors and Mr. President.”
