365Daily – The embattled Akwa Ibom state senator, Bassey Albert, who was sentenced to 42 years imprisonment over corruption charges, has allegedly sent a message of hope to his supporters from the prison, asking them not to cry for him.
Senator Albert, popularly known as OBA, who is also the 2023 governorship candidate of the Young People’s Party (YPP), allegedly spoke through a Facebook user, Da Zion Umoh, urged his supporters to continue with the campaign to make him the next governor of the state.
According to Umuh in his Facebook post, OBA, who he claimed was in a high spirit when he visited him at the Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre, said he was hopeful that he would be set free by an appellate court.
Umoh also disclosed that the Senator had also directed that his Christmas gifts for his supporters should be distributed as planned in spite of the recent development.
Umoh’s Facebook post read in part: “Don’t cry my brother but rather, please encourage everyone out there to be strong and remain steadfast while continuing the campaigns.
“I have given instructions that all the Christmas packages that I acquired for all Akwa Ibomites should start going on circulations from the 11th of this month (December) and it must get to all Wards, Units and LGAs.
“I am strong with confidence that the will of God will prevail with time but you must remain focused because Akwa Ibom State is all that we have left.
“Please, don’t cry because I don’t want to see anyone crying, although I wish you were still here in Prison for us to at least get to spend more time together hahahahahaha but nevertheless, I know that the God of the people that are agitating for me will fight this battle for Akwa Ibomites because I am fighting for them and they need me.
“Within the past 4 months, I lost my sister to sickness, I lost my brother to sickness, I lost my Chief Protocol Officer to gunmen, I lost one of my Police Escort Officer to gunmen and now, I have just been sent to Prison but notwithstanding, this will not stop the will of the people neither will it destroy my dreams for Akwa Ibomites because the like of President Buhari and President Obasanjo both went to Prison and still came out to fulfill the will that God had perfected for them.
“Let me go and take a shower and get some rest while my lawyers will do the needful by appealing this Judgement.
“You are my brother and thank you so much for visiting me this very day that I was brought here.”
