The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation works on Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line in Akwa Ibom State, following recent acts of vandalism that affected the critical power infrastructure.
During an inspection of the affected sites on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, who was represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that the rehabilitation works strictly complied with approved engineering specifications.
Dr. Raymond said the inspection would also enable the technical team to identify and make immediate adjustments where necessary to ensure the quality and durability of the restored facilities.
He disclosed that significant progress had been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled, while their foundations had been solidly recast in preparation for the reconstruction of the transmission structures.
The AGM urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and take an active role in protecting critical power infrastructure in their communities. He called on residents to report suspicious activities and assist security agencies in preventing further acts of vandalism.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous and rigorous monitoring of the rehabilitation project to ensure strict compliance with engineering standards.
Engr. Azuh commended the TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the execution of the project, noting that the strategy would help reduce the time required to restore the affected transmission line.
However, he explained that the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had slowed down the pace of construction activities at the sites.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, also expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far. He commended the contractors for their commitment to the project and their understanding of the urgency of restoring the vandalised transmission infrastructure.
TCN said the ongoing rehabilitation is expected to strengthen the transmission network in the area and support the reliable supply of electricity to communities served by the Ikot Abasi–Eket transmission line.
