The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Emmanuel Ombugadu, has promised to run an inclusive and innovative administration focused on improving security and the welfare of residents if elected in the 2027 governorship election.
Ombugadu made the pledge on Saturday in Lafia during the official flag-off of his governorship campaign.
He said his administration would prioritise prudent management of public resources, improved security, better welfare for citizens and the provision of basic amenities that, according to him, were lacking in many parts of the state.
The PDP candidate, who is seeking the governorship ticket for the third time, also expressed concern over the distribution of the benefits of Nasarawa’s mineral resources.
He noted that the state had significant deposits of valuable minerals, including gold, lithium and wolframite, but said the wealth generated from such resources remained concentrated in the hands of a few.
Ombugadu promised that, if elected, his administration would ensure that state resources were directed towards public welfare, including improved access to healthcare and safer working conditions for farmers and other agricultural workers.
Ombugadu urged citizens and residents to resist what he described as attempts by “political bigots” to mortgage the state for personal interests, stressing that the unity and development of Nasarawa required the collective efforts of its people.
He thanked residents for their large turnout at the campaign flag-off and urged eligible voters to obtain the necessary electoral documents and participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
“It would not be business as usual in the 2027 election because I’m sure the Nasarawa people have realised the need to vote rightly. Go out there and equip yourselves with the necessary voting right to participate in the next year’s general elections,” he said.
Also speaking at the rally, PDP National Deputy Chairman (North), Yusuf Nya Agirikwe, said the party had a strong support base in the state.
“We have been hearing from far that Nasarawa State is PDP. I have come to establish it myself today, that PDP has the mandate of the people to rule them in this state,” Agirikwe said.
He urged party members, supporters and other stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections and work to safeguard their votes during the electoral process.
