365Daily – The Rivers State House of Assembly has voted to remove all privileges and recognition from Celestine Omehia as a former Governor of the state.
This was sequel to a motion moved and approved during plenary of Thursday, October 6, 2022.
The Assembly asked Omehia to refund all monetary entitlement and benefits he received on account of his former status, amounting to N600 million, within seven days.
In addition, the legislators added that he should return about N96.5 million he received as a pension.
He is also to lose the right to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’.
Omehia was removed in 2007 by the Supreme Court six months after he was declared winner of the state governorship election, and replaced by immediate past Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
Gov. Nyesom Wike, however, recognised him as an ex-Governor when he took over the reins of the state in 2015. Their relationship soured over his support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike and Atiku contested for the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the latter winning the primaries.
All 21 members of the Assembly who were present voted in support of the motion to delist Omehia and resolved to forward their resolution to Governor, Nyesom Wike, for implementation.
