Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakiliki on Thursday, inducted 84 gradands into Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
The induction ceremony took place at the Information and Communication Technology auditorium, permanent site of the institution, Ezzamgbo.
Dr Chioma Oko, Head, Department of Nursing Science, while presenting the graduands, said that the inductees were certified in both character and learning.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Awoke, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ike Elechi commended the inductees for making it into the Nursing profession.
Awoke described Nigerian Nurses as a rare commodity across the globe and charged the inductees to sustain the already built legacy in the profession.
He further tasked them to think home as greater number of them, already had the notion of seeking for greener pasture abroad.
Also, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology of the school, Prof. Boniface Ukwah, thanked God for seeing the inductees through the years of rigorous academic training and clinical practice.
Ukwah said that the inductees had made personal sacrifices and unwavering determination worthy of celebrating.
The Dean said that Nursing is more than an occupation but a call to serve humanity with compassion, competency, integrity and professionalism.
He charged the inductees to uphold the good virtues and reputation inculcated in them by the University.
In a remark, the Chairman of the occasion Prof. Njoku Isaac, who is also the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Medicine task the inductees to keep the ethics of Nursing profession and be good ambassadors of the school.
Also speaking, the guest speaker, Mrs Antonia Aruwa told the inductees to keep the core mandates of the Nursing profession.
Dr Ndagi Alhassan, the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) represented by Mrs Stella Goodwill during the oath taking, urged the inductees to uphold the ethics of the profession.
Alhassan noted that NMCN is the federal regulatory body charged with the responsibility of regulating and controlling Nursing and Midwifery activities in Nigeria.
“You are now qualified to practice in any part of the world after the induction. Trade with caution as your license is revocable if you are found wanting.
“Nigeria Nurses is rated third in ranking in terms of performance across the whole world. Practice with integrity as you join other colleagues in the field,” he advised.
The HOD, Nursing Science, Dr Chioma Oko presented Onyinyechi Ugwuagba as the best graduating student, followed by Chinenye Ekwealor and Minah Obike.
On behalf of the inductees, Ms Onyinyechi Ugwuagba thanked the Lecturers for their impactful knowledge.(NAN)
