The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated an 80,000-litre solar-powered motorised borehole in Ka’oje Community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi.
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, officially flagged off the project on Thursday.
He was represented at the event by the Chief of Naval Transportation, Rear Adm. Monday Unurhiere.
In his remarks, Ogalla described the inauguration as another milestone in the Nigerian Navy’s Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative.
“Civil-Military Cooperation encompasses activities and interactions between the military and civil society aimed at achieving tactical, operational, and strategic objectives,” he said.
He explained that the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project was initiated in 2024 to strengthen the Navy’s CIMIC mandate and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The idea behind these quick impact projects is twofold: first, to honour accomplished senior officers by giving them the opportunity to make meaningful contributions at the grassroots within communities of their choice.
“Second, to demonstrate the Navy’s commitment to addressing the socio-economic needs of Nigerians,” he said.
Ogalla added that the Navy is working to expand the reach of its CIMIC projects across its operational zones.
Highlighting the significance of the project, Ogalla noted that access to clean water remains a challenge in many parts of Kebbi due to the region’s topography.
He praised Rear Adm. Hamza Kaoje for initiating the borehole project, describing it as a strategic intervention aligned with the needs of the local population.
“This project reflects Kaoje’s sensitivity to grassroots needs and aligns with the core objectives of the Quick Impact Projects.
“It also resonates with the vision of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” he said.
Ogalla, commended senior officer, Ka’oje for the timely completion of the 80,000-litre solar-powered borehole project in Ka’oje.
He also expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the initiative.
“I acknowledge the massive support from the beneficiary communities, the local government authority, and the Kebbi State Government from the commencement of the project to its completion,” Ogalla said.
Highlighting the project’s significance in improving the quality of life, Ogalla urged residents to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities to guarantee their long-term usefulness.
The CNS also appealed to the Ka’oje community to continue cooperating with the Nigerian Navy, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and other security agencies in their efforts to safeguard collective peace and security.
Representing Gov. Nasir Idris, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi, emphasised the administration’s prioritisation of water supply for both human and animal needs.
