Makurdi-Lafia to be blocked as farmers protest murder of kinsmen

The intention of the farmers is to express their grievances over the government’s alleged inaction over killings of their members, land grabbing, and other forms of injustice

The Association of United Farmers Benue- Valley, AUFBV, has alerted the Governor of Nasarawa state, Engineer Abdullahi Sule of its peaceful protest scheduled to hold Monday at Kadarko town in Nasarawa state.

According to a statement, during the peaceful protest the major highway that passes through Kadarko from Makurdi to Lafia and Abuja would be blocked with no vehicle either passing through that axis going down to Makurdi to the Eastern part of the country.

Leader of the farmers, Chief Dennis Gbongbon Utsa and Iornumbe Igba in a statement made available to 365Daily, yesterday, in Makurdi, said the intention of the farmers is to express their grievances over the government’s alleged inaction over killings of their members, land grabbing, and other forms of injustice in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The group, is equally demanding that the governor takes immediate action to address these issues
as well as put to an end the killings of Tiv farmers in Keana LGA and other locations as well as protect their farmlands, recover the over 394 missing corpses of Tiv farmers allegedly murdered in Keana LGA by Alago militias since June 2024.

Chief Gbongbon Utsa and Iornumbe Igba in the statement also urged the Nasarawa Governor to direct the enforcement order of dethronement of the Osana of Keana and Osokadorko, as well as disband the traditional rulers from Keana LGA.

The group also urged Nasarawa state government to support burial logistics for the over 394 persons killed, with an estimated cost of over N441 million, emphasizing that these demands are non-negotiable, and vowed to continue with the protest until their grievances are addressed.
