The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied receiving any complaint alleging that young people in the Nyanya area of the territory are selling their kidneys for money.
The Command also dismissed reports claiming that an alleged agent in Mararaba was involved in buying human kidneys, describing the reports circulating on social media as unverified.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command had neither received nor confirmed any report relating to the alleged human organ sales.
Adeh stressed that no statement or official communication had been issued by the Command confirming the claims currently circulating online.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature, and no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command,” she said.
The clarification followed social media publications alleging that some young residents around Nyanya had resorted to selling their kidneys for financial gains, while an alleged agent operating in Mararaba was said to be purchasing human organs.
The police urged residents to disregard the reports and refrain from sharing information that has not been verified by the appropriate authorities.
According to the Command, the circulation of such unverified claims could create unnecessary fear, panic and apprehension among residents of the FCT.
The police, however, urged members of the public with credible information about suspected human organ trafficking or any other criminal activity to report immediately to the nearest police station.
