FCT Police debunks reported shooting of Sowore

365Daily – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied reports its female officer shot the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, in Abuja during a protest.

It said the reported shooting was false and fake news.

Sowore was reportedly shot with a tear gas canister at the Unity Fountain where he had joined other Nigerians to converge for a protest against insecurity on Monday, May 31, 2021.

However, the Spokesperson of the FCT  Command,  ASP Mariam Yusuf, in a statement, said: “Contrary to the speculation, Police operatives professionally restored calm at the Unity Fountain following attempts by a group of protesters to incite public disturbance.

“The protesters who went on the rampage were resisted by Police Operatives in order to prevent them from causing a breakdown of law and order. There is no record of such incident as at the time of this release.”

She enjoined residents to remain calm and law-abiding and assured that the Police is committed to the protection of lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.
