365Daily – The Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, has been removed from office by the state House of Assembly.
The Zamfara legislature took the decision in plenary on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in a unanimous vote.
Presenting the copies of the report to the Speaker, Okpeseyi said: “We have done our duty with utmost integrity and diligence and we have compiled this report based on the evidences we have gathered in the course of our duty.”
The travails of Gusau started after he refused to defect with the Governor of the State, Bello Matawalle, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on whose platform they were both elected.
On February 6, the PPD cautioned the Zamfara House of Assembly against moves to impeach Mahdi Gusau.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to immediately intervene in the problem.
The party described the alleged move as undemocratic and illegal, as the impeachment process was followed in spite of a subsisting order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/ 650/2021.
