President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman and former Governor of the old Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.
Akpabio, accompanied by his wife, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, described the deceased as a patriotic Nigerian whose contributions to national development transcended ethnic, regional and political boundaries.
The Senate President said he had known Tukur personally for many years, recalling an occasion in 2009 when the late statesman chaired an event he attended in London.
He described Tukur as a man of wisdom and extensive experience who dedicated a significant part of his life to public service and the development of Nigeria.
According to Akpabio, the death of the former governor represents a loss to the nation, noting that his record of service and wealth of experience would continue to serve as a source of inspiration to younger politicians and future generations.
The Senate President also announced that the National Assembly would honour the late statesman on the floor of the Senate when it resumes, in recognition of his contributions to the country.
He urged Tukur’s children and other members of the family to take solace in the life he lived and preserve the values and legacy he left behind.
Akpabio and his wife extended their condolences to the Tukur family, the Adamawa State Government and the people of the state, as well as Nigerians mourning the former governor.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive Tukur’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
