Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s future, saying Nigeria is beginning to see light beyond its current challenges.
Abbas made the call on Friday, September 25, 2026, at a special Jumma’at prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As Nigeria prepares to commemorate its 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1, the Speaker joined millions of Nigerians in thanking Almighty Allah for preserving the nation, sustaining its democracy and guiding the country through six decades of independence.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence, Abbas acknowledged that the country has experienced both successes and setbacks, with some opportunities embraced and others missed.
He noted that nations, like individuals, are defined not only by the mistakes of their past but also by their courage and determination to correct them.
According to him, the Renewed Hope Administration is addressing some of the challenges accumulated over the years while laying the foundations for a stronger, more productive and prosperous Nigeria.
The Speaker expressed optimism that peace and development are gradually gaining ground, stressing that the sacrifices being made by Nigerians will ultimately contribute to building the country they desire.
He also called on Nigerians to continue giving the nation the patience, support and collective commitment needed to complete the ongoing work of rebuilding the country.
“Nigeria is 66. She is no longer a child. She is a nation of immense possibilities, and her best chapters can still be written,” Abbas said.
He prayed for continued divine blessings upon the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its citizens, while wishing Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
