Schools resumed on Monday amidst rising numbers of Coronavirus infections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with many of them in the metropolis complying with COVID-19 guidelines.
365Daily visited some schools midday to evaluate compliance after the initial morning rush. Our correspondent observed that both the students and the schools had made adequate provisions to prevent further spread of the virus.
At Government Secondary School, Zone 3, Wuse, students and teachers were seen moving around with their nose masks on properly.
Along the school premises, in front of strategic offices and buildings, containers filled with water and hand washing soap were available for use.
At the Junior Secondary School, Zone 2, Wuse, students were observed in their classes with their nose masks on while hand washing facilities were also made available in front of key buildings.
A teacher who spoke to 365Daily on condition of anonymity said the school management was strict on enforcement of the COVID-19 guidelines.
He said: “The school does not permit students entry if they are without nose mask and when they resumed this morning, from the gates they proceeded straight to wash their hands. Even in their classes, we emphasise and ensure hygiene and social distancing.”
A similar scenario was observed at the Holy Rosary International Nursery and Primary School at Zone 2 and the popular Government Secondary School, Tudun Wada located at Wuse Zone 4.
Students were seen at the close of school with their nose masks on as they made their way to the school gates where hand washing facilities are evenly distributed within the premises.
However, at the close of school, the initial morning order of social distancing was ditched as pupils mingled indiscriminately as they made their way home.
