The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fifth suspect in connection with the killing of University of Jos graduate, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” as investigations into the incident continue.
The latest suspect, Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, 24, was apprehended following intelligence-driven operations by detectives investigating the case, according to the police.
The Command said preliminary findings indicate that Beskeni allegedly played a role in the attack by helping to restrain the victim, tying him to a pole before he was assaulted by a mob.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators with further inquiries.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, SP Alfred Alabo, said efforts had been intensified to track down other individuals believed to have participated in the killing.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that everyone connected with the incident is identified and brought to justice.
Also reacting, the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the bereaved family that the investigation would be thorough and impartial.
He vowed that all those found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law, stressing that the Command would not relent until justice was served.
The police also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could aid the arrest of other suspects who remain at large.
Mbaya was killed on July 27 after he was allegedly attacked by a mob over accusations of stealing a mobile phone at an off-campus residence in Jos.
