365Daily – The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that it is reaching out to high-profile politicians such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to contest elections on its platform, warning that the narrative originated from an impersonation account on X.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu. released late Sunday, the party said the posts in circulation were traced to a fake handle designed to look like its verified account, complete with similar branding elements. It cautioned the public against relying on information from the page.
The NDC stressed that it is not engaged in any form of targeted recruitment of political figures, noting that its structure allows for open participation rather than selective lobbying.
“The insinuation that the party is lobbying any individual or group to run on its platform is untrue and should be disregarded,” the statement said, attributing the claims to a parody account falsely presenting itself as the party’s official voice.
While acknowledging that the account could be run by a supporter, the party maintained that its messages are not authorised and do not reflect its positions. It added that this was not the first time it had raised concerns about the handle.
The party urged media organisations and the public to verify political communications through its verified X account to avoid amplifying misinformation.
Projecting itself as an inclusive platform, the NDC said it remains open to all Nigerians interested in political participation, rather than handpicking aspirants.
According to the party, “every Nigerian who believes in positive change and multi-party democracy is free to join, work with us and contest elections on our platform,” with particular encouragement extended to women and persons living with disabilities.
The NDC also used the statement to acknowledge what it described as growing support since its emergence, reaffirming its identity as a values-driven political movement.
