Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has stated that he has no wealth to corrupt anyone and specifically especially the judiciary.
Governor Alia who was reacting to allegations of his involvement in buying off members of the judiciary by the Centre for Judicial Integrity (CJI) described the smear campaign as nothing other than a forlorn attempt by disgruntled political elements in Abuja to sabotage his integrity as a governor who has persistently sided with the principles of justice and good governance.
Governor Alia in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Monday, in Makurdi, challenged his accusers and their allies to provide evidence, if any, to bolster their outrageous claims or face the consequences of their thoughtless denunciations.
He argued that those bent on disseminating such concoctions without substantiation merely affirms the true nature of such individuals who he noted are enthusiastic to pollute the reputation of respected institutions for personal benefit, adding that he would continue to hold the judiciary in tremendous regard and would never negotiate its integrity for any reason.
He described the call for a “state of emergency” in Benue State as not only vexatious but a fragrant display of political opportunism, pointing out that the irritated political operatives have been sponsored by unscrupulous factions desperate and eager to capitalize on any situation.
The governor further explained that their motives which is to undermine a state that is presently going through effective governance and progress were clear, insisting that there is no unrest in Benue State as he as the governor is fully in charge and control of the state.
He warned those he described as wholesalers of crisis to steer clear of Benue State as the people of Benue are not persuaded by unjustifiable allegations or political manoeuvres, affirming that the state and its people are instead, witnessing transformational governance that prioritizes their welfare and well-being as he is fixated on shaping the narrative around governance in the state, demystifying the process, and insuring that the government works for the people.

While appealing to all forces involved in this smear campaign to reflect on their activities and examine the damage they wreak on the democratic process, Governor Alia, in the statement insisted that he has no wealth to corrupt anyone especially an esteemed institution like the judiciary, assuring that he would always remain transparent, accountable as well as uphold the rule of law.
