Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, has finally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that 365Daily had reported that the governor was set to move to the ruling party last week but for last minute attempts by PDP’s leadership to persuade him to remain with the party.
Sources who spoke with 365Daily said the governor had reportedly requested the PDP to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the South East, a demand which could not be assented to.
Umahi, who contested and won the governorship elections in Ebonyi State in 2015 and 2019, respectively, on the platform of the PDP, is said to have his eyes set on the presidency in 2023.
It is unclear if the APC will zone the presidency slot to the South East in the next presidential election.
