A group of people who identified themselves as Federal Government contractors on Wednesday stormed the National Assembly in protest of non-payment of N8 billion debt by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The protesters converged at the main entrance of the National Assembly complex for hours, chanting solidarity songs.
They said the debt was incurred from work done at the Project Development Institute, Enugu, and outstanding for constituency projects completed since December 2020.
Leader of the group, Joy Uche, said while speaking with newsmen that the failure of the government to pay their money had taken a toll on the wellbeing of their families, with some of them dying in the process of trying to get their entitlements.
The group said they decided to take their case to their representatives at the House of Representatives, where they submitted a petition, for intervention.
